ABS pipes are made of acrylonitrile butadiene styrene, which is a thermoplastic polymer resin. These pipes are largely used in sewer systems and in electrical insulations, owing to their high impact strength, which makes them more resistant to shocks and chemical resistance, particularly in the industrial end-user segment. However, low flexibility of ABS pipes and high possibility of deformation under sunlight, owing to ultraviolet (UV) radiations, have hampered the market growth of ABS pipes in the Malaysian region.

Based on end user, the market is bifurcated into residential, commercial, and industrial. The residential segment is projected to be the most lucrative segment from 2017 to 2025, owing to increase in construction activities in the Malaysian region. This is attributed to rise in need for rapid development of infrastructure.

Region-wise, the market is studied across the northern region, central region, southern region, east coast, and Sabah & Sarwak. The central region is anticipated to grow at a significant rate from 2017 to 2025, owing to increase in replacement of older water pipe networks. Malaysia reportedly has 44,000 km of old water pipes, which are made from asbestos cement, leading to massive water loss from leaks. A proposal has been put forth to invest RM500 million a year for the repair of pipes to reduce the nonrevenue water (NRW) rate from 35% in 2017 to 25% by 2025.
