IT Governance has released the latest compliance guidance green paper on the Network and Information Security (NIS) Directive.

ELY, UNITED KINGDOM, October 4, 2017 /EINPresswire.com/ -- IT Governance, the leading provider of information security services, has released the latest compliance guidance green paper on the Network and Information Security (NIS) Directive.

The NIS Directive introduces a standard measure of cyber security compliance across the EU, which operators of essential services and Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) organisations should meet to minimise the risk of potential data breaches.

The Directive is launched alongside the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), both of which have been produced to bring data protection and cyber security law up to speed with the current digital economy and to enforce penalties for organisations that fail to comply.

IT Governance is pleased to release its updated green paper The EU Directive on Security of Network and Information Systems (NIS Directive) – UK compliance guidance – available as a free download to help individuals and organisations to understand how to prepare for the Directive.

This updated version is released following the UK government’s consultation paper in August, which outlines the need for service provider and CNI organisations to enforce tougher security frameworks in the face of growing threats against businesses, individuals and public services. The UK government plans to publish feedback from the consultation process in December 2017.

Founder and executive chairman of IT Governance, Alan Calder, said: “The NIS Directive requires CNI organisations to implement an effective risk management framework and to report data breaches as soon as they are detected. It is therefore imperative that organisational and technical measures are in place to prevent potential cyber attacks and to avoid the reputational damage that might follow.”

IT Governance offers a range of green papers and resources, including its certified Incident Response Management Foundation Training Course, to help organisations understand compliance and security processes.
