Sometimes, there’s nothing like settling down, snuggling up, and reading a book.
And according to one study, there’s one genre that Pennsylvanians are clamoring to read more than the rest.
Cloudwards conducted and published a study sent via emailed press release that crowned poetry as the top book genre in the Keystone State. Poetry was the third most popular genre in the United States overall, with nine states total having it as their top.
The release notes how poetry is having a “surprising resurgence” as social media platforms help to stoke an interest in the art form.
“In what may be [this] study’s most surprising revelation, poetry ranks as the most-searched category in nine states, challenging conventional wisdom about the genre’s popular appeal,” the release reads. “Alaska, Idaho, Maine, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont all show poetry as their dominant literary interest, creating a scatter but significant footprint for verse across America.
“This unexpected poetry renaissance may reflect several cultural factors, including the rise of Instagram poets, growing interest in spoken word performances, and poetry’s resurgence as a form of political and social expression.”
The number one preferred genre nationwide was romance, with a whopping 22 states total having love stories as their main genre of literature.
The Cloudwards team was able to formulate this study by analyzing Google Trends data over a 12-month period. Findings were then calculated in each of the 50 states as well as D.C.
