Darkness cometh, and change is at hand, my babies.
On Saturday, March 29, 2025, we will experience a partial solar eclipse in the fire-forward, progress-at-all-costs sign of Aries.
A solar eclipse happens when the moon passes between the sun and the Earth, casting a shadow on our planet that either totally or partially blocks the sun’s light.
Partial solar eclipse
A partial solar eclipse happens when the moon passes between the sun and Earth, but the holy trinity is not perfectly aligned. Thus, only a part of the sun gets covered, giving the death star a crescent shape.
A solar eclipse of either variety only happens with a new moon.
The partial solar eclipse in Aries will cast its shadow across wide swaths of the world, with different areas able to see varying levels of coverage.
March 29 solar eclipse: North America
Per the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, the eclipse will be visible in sections of North America, Europe, Africa, northern Asia, small parts of South America, Greenland and Iceland, as well as parts of the Atlantic and Arctic oceans.
Beginning at sunrise, North America will witness some of the most significant coverage. Around 7 a.m. in Halifax, Canada, 83% of the sun will be covered. At 6 a.m. in Portland, Maine, 64% of the sun will be blotted out.
New Yorkers will see a bit less obstruction, with 22% coverage at 6:45 a.m..

How to safely watch the eclipse
To safely see the solar eclipse, skywatchers must observe the phenomenon through protective glasses.
Staring directly into the sun for an extended period could lead to retinal damage — and even blindness. The best way to avoid direct exposure to intense light is to purchase a pair of eclipse glasses; for recommendations, see here.
Eclipse seekers can also use an indirect viewing method, like a pinhole projector, to indirectly see the eclipse through shadows.
Where does the word ‘eclipse’ come from, anyway?
Fun fact: the word eclipse comes from the Greek ekleipsis, meaning “to abandon, to forsake a usual place.”
In that sense, we can understand the energy of the eclipse as a point of disembarkment, leaving behind anything that isn’t aiding and abetting us on the path of processing and progressing.
Eclipses are not known for their delicacy — they’re more a point of no return than a gentle nudge.
But eclipses and their aftermath are supposed to be jarring: we are meant to wake up.
Lunar eclipses can translate to sudden and severe endings, but solar eclipses, while no less powerful, can clear the way for sudden breakthroughs and out-of-the-blue opportunities.
We’ll take it.
What the March 29 solar eclipse means for astrology
Hong Kong-based certified counselor and award-winning astrologist Letao Wang tells The Post this upcoming eclipse marks a “pivotal moment in the astrological landscape. Solar eclipses are known as cosmic reset buttons, bringing opportunities for profound transformation and new beginnings.”
He notes that because this eclipse is appearing in the bold, badass sign of Aries, there will be an increased emphasis on action and assertion.
“Ruled by Mars, Aries is the first sign of the zodiac, symbolizing initiation, leadership and raw energy. This eclipse will act as a celestial spark, encouraging us to break free from stagnation and pursue our desires with fearless determination.”

Wang tells The Post that it is nothing short of the most important new moon of the year, and following a shaky start to 2025 that included an extended Mars retrograde, we are now poised for progress.
“Aries energy is unapologetically forward-moving, so hesitation or self-doubt will feel particularly out of sync during this period. The ruler of the solar eclipse, Mars, is also in its direct motion, which gives even more magic to this solar eclipse.”
Aries is a monster truck, wheels up, light the fires and gas the tires energy, reminding us that fortune favors the bold and that we’re all bound for certain death. So, we might as well get ours, leave our mark and burn bright on the broken highway between birth and burial.
Yet, this eclipse is not without a hitch in the proverbial giddy-up.
Venus, our planet of wealth and worth, and Mercury, our planet of communication and exchange, are retrograde. Aries is full speed, but retrograde signals a time to slow down and turn in, not for fear of going forward but to make the miles matter.
The lesson of this lunation is that thoughtful deceleration can take you further than reckless acceleration for a passing impulse.
Because eclipses bring a heightened, chaotic energy to pass, lying low is encouraged and supported, particularly with two personal planets retrograde.
Repeat after me: rest primes you to receive.
Speaking of turning in and powering down, just as the moon casts a shadow on the sun, so too do solar eclipses shine an unforgiving light on what we’ve been hiding in our hurt lockers and proverbial closets.
“Eclipses have a way of bringing our shadow work to the surface, highlighting areas where we’ve been too passive or overly reliant on others, urging us to step into our power and reclaim our autonomy,” Wang says. “As we begin to assert our needs more strongly, relationships and collaborations might feel the tension. But this
isn’t necessarily a bad thing.”
When is the solar eclipse?
Wang notes that this is the final eclipse in the saga of Libra/Aries eclipses that began in 2023,
“This axis highlights the delicate dance between ‘self’ (Aries) and ‘other’ (Libra). Over the next few months, we’ll be challenged to find harmony between our personal desires and the needs of those around us. It’s a time to reflect on how we can honor our individuality while nurturing our connections with others.”
To add a little more intrigue to this cosmic bonfire, Wang notes that the solar eclipse is eclipsing at 9 degrees of Aries, aligning with the numerology of 2025 (2+0+2+5=9).
In numerology, 9 represents transformation and transition, the end of a cycle and the onset of another: closure and conclusion.
Wang shared, “So, ask yourself: What do you want to manifest this year? What have you been working toward over the past nine years that’s ready to come to fruition? This eclipse is your cosmic nudge to take that final leap. Trust that the universe is supporting you as you step into a brighter, more empowered future. The stars are aligning for a fresh start — dare to seize it.”
When is the next solar eclipse?
After this weekend’s event, the next solar eclipse will be a partial solar eclipse in Virgo on Sept. 21, 2025.
