Super Eagles must be ruthless in Lagos – Fashanu

Former Wimbledon star, John Fashanu, says Nigeria have no excuses not to secure qualification for the knockout stages of the Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifiers while urging the team to be lethal in attack when they take on Cape Verde on Tuesday.

Super Eagles host the Blue Sharks at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos.

Gernot Rohr’s side head into matchday six in Group C with a two-point lead at the top and will book their place at the finals round of the qualifier with at least a point.

The Eagles lost their last home game of the World Cup qualifier to Central African Republic last month and Fashanu in a chat with PUNCH Sports Extra said the Eagles must avoid another  home defeat.

“The Eagles have to be ruthless against their opponents in Lagos. They have the fans behind them which should give them an advantage over the visitors.

“Also, having Ighalo back in the team is not a bad idea because it will boost the confidence of the players which is great.

“When you are playing at home you have an advantage and the Eagles must not mess it up. There is no way Nigeria should lose this match or even draw. These are the kind of matches that we have to firmly and confidently win and show everybody that we are the best in Africa.

“This is the time to show everyone that we remain a strong side because it hurts when we lose here at home against minnows. So, the Eagles have to show the firepower and the desire to win.”
