METIER is just the job in the Grade 1 Unibet Tolworth Hurdle at Sandown Park (2.25) today.

The four-year-old, a winner on the Flat in Ireland, is two from two since joining Harry Fry since from Co Tipperary handler Andrew Slattery.

Mastercraftman’s son justified 5-4 favouritism by an impressive 10 lengths in a novice event at Newton Abbot at the end of October.

And Metier followed that obstacles debut by carrying a penalty to victory at Ascot 22 days later, romping to a five-and-a-half-length supremacy over Tile Topper.

Those efforts make Metier one of the best juvenile hurdlers seen out during the first half of the season - and there is plenty more where that came from.

Heavy ground in Esher will be no issue whatsoever to Sean Bowen’s mount, who should defend his unbeaten record and book his place in the line-up for Cheltenham’s Triumph Hurdle.
