Here are your Everton morning headlines for Thursday, 22 October.

Richarlison alternatives for Blues

Richarlison was shown a straight red card in Saturday’s derby draw against Liverpool and will now miss Everton’s trip to Southampton.

The Echo have outlined three potential alternatives for the club ahead of the trip, as Carlo Ancelotti looks to reshape his attack to complement Dominic Calvert-Lewin and James Rodriguez.

Bernard, Anthony Gordon and Alex Iwobi are highlighted as the three options. Iwobi has been a regular substitute this season and has fitted into the system seamlessly on each occasion.

Bernard and Gordon have been limited to EFL Cup action against Salford City and Fleetwood Town this campaign, although Bernard is stylistically similar to his fellow Brazilian in terms of dribbling and Gordon would be more naturally suited to that left-sided attacking role.

Pickford welcomes competition

Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford has welcomed the arrival of Sweden international Robin Olsen, report the Echo .

The former Roma shot-stopper has arrived on a season-long loan deal from Cagliari and, despite suggestions he could challenge Pickford for his position, the England goalkeeper is happy with the setup.

It is said that despite Pickford’s shaky form in recent times, he retains the trust of Carlo Ancelotti and the club’s coaching staff and believes the competition will help his own game improve.

Pickford will hope to retain the No.1 shirt for the trip to Southampton this weekend.

The Everton ‘court case’ over Tim Cahill article

David Prentice is the Echo's Head of Sport and his book A Grand Old Team to Report is to be published this week.

The Echo have run with an exclusive excerpt from the book, in which Prentice remembers an incident in 2006 that got him into trouble with the club and the players.

It followed on from a piece he had penned following the death of Toffees fan Brian Labone. The column turned its ire on Tim Cahill, who had not attended the function after which Labone suffered a heart attack.

The Australian midfielder had visited one of the club’s nightclubs on the same evening, but Prentice was not aware of the fact he had been excused from attending the function due to injury, leading to a tense scene in the dressing room.
