It may have only aired for four series, but Doctor Who spin-off Torchwood collected a lot of passionate fans and its finale attracted the likes of Hollywood stars Bill Pullman and Frances Fisher.

The show aired between 2006 and 2011 and was created by Doctor Who writer, Swansea-born Russell T Davies who has since gone on to pen some of the most socially-groundbreaking British dramas, like Years & Years, Cucumber, Tofu and Banana, not to mention Queer As Folk before Torchwood.

Torchwood followed a team of alien hunters that were based in Cardiff, right under the massive water feature on Roald Dahl Plass as it happens, who are led by dynamic Captain Jack Harkness.

It broke records for digi-channel BBC Three and was soon moved to BBC Two and then creepy series four, Children of the Earth, was on BBC One.

The fourth and final, thus far, series was a co-production with the US Starz network and Independence Day's Bill Pullman and ER's Mekhi Phifer joined the cast.

We know what many of the cast members have been up to, especially the one who's been in the jungle (John Barrowman) and the other mooching about the coast of Wales (Eve Myles in Keeping Faith), but what have the rest of the core cast of Torchwood been doing since the show ended?

Captain Jack Harkness - John Barrowman

John as Captain Jack Harkness

Well, it seems like John Barrowman has never been off our TVs since donning the floor-length military coat and beating up aliens.

He made a fabulous appearance on 2018's I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! during which he came third after charming viewers by showing more than his flamboyant side.

Before he went into the jungle he spent more time on TV sci-fi dramas Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow and he was in US drama Desperate Housewives too.

As well as acting (and high-kicking) on the small screen John has been a familiar face in Cardiff as he's appeared in panto at the New Theatre and had a home in the Vale of Glamorgan.

Gwen Cooper - Eve Myles

Another Torchwood star whose career has rocketed since hiding under Roald Dahl Plass.

Eve in her Torchwood role

Eve's blockbuster TV hit Keeping Faith - the one with the yellow mac and missing husband - gained fans across the world and they are now waiting for the third and final series to air.

Besides reprising the role of Gwen Cooper in the Torchwood radio plays, Eve has also starred in the GOLD series You, Me & Them, as Mrs Jenkins in ITV's Victoria and as Claire Ripley in the second series of Broadchurch.

Eve also had the titular role in Frankie, about a district nurse in Bristol.

She's since won fans and critical acclaim in Keeping Faith

This year Eve - who lives in Cardiff with her actor husband Bradley Freegard and their two daughters - starred in yet another dark drama, We Hunt Together, a cat and mouse thriller.

Ianto - Gareth David-Lloyd

Gareth as Ianto, who has a shrine dedicated to him

Ianto Jones was Jack Harkness' love interest later in the show as the character became a cult favourite with viewers and the role expanded as the series went on.

Much to the viewers' chagrin, Ianto was bumped off in series three and since then a shrine in Cardiff Bay has become a tourist destination must-see.

Carol-Anne Hillman from Grangetown is the official caretaker of Ianto's Shrine in Cardiff Bay

Newport actor Gareth is still on the scene with appearances in Casualty, Holby City, Warren and he appeared in the SyFy film, Red Faction: Origins.

He's still recording Torchwood audio dramas and is often seen on the stage and at comic-cons.

Rhys Williams - Kai Owen

Rhys was Gwen Cooper's partner who spent the first series not knowing his girlfriend hunted down aliens and the like.

But as the series went on Rhys became a helper of the Torchwood team and got star billing by the fourth series.

Kai Owen has since gone on to a gritty role in Hollyoaks

Conwy-born Kai was known to many S4C viewers way before Torchwood, for his role as Kev the roofer in Tipyn O Stad and as a loan shark in Pobol Y Cwm.

After leaving the Torchwood fam he had roles in The Syndicate, Waterloo Road and Being Human.

But it was his role as Pete Buchanan in TV soap Hollyoaks that really garnered praise. A child abuser who groomed his girlfriends' daughters, Kai worked in partnership with the NSPCC on the storyline .

Last year we saw Kai in Welsh-filmed, The Accident, and he had a recurring role in Doctors.

A keen marathon runner for charity, Kai is also now a qualified personal trainer.

Burn Gorman - Owen Harper

Burn as womaniser Owen

Womaniser Owen was Torchwood's medical officer who really has a heck of a lot of drama during his time on the show, including leading a mutiny, shooting Jack, getting shot dead, coming back to life...

Burn Gorman, hopefully, doesn't have such bad luck and he does have a pretty impressive list of appearances since leaving Torchwood - and before as well.

Alongside racking up stage time, including as Bill Sikes in the West End revival of Oliver in 2008, Burn has appeared in Pacific Rim and Pacific Rim: Uprising, The Dark Knight Rises, Martina Cole's The Runaway and of course, as Karl Tanner in Game of Thrones.

In recent years you'll have seen him in Turn: Washington's Spies and The Man in the High Castle.

Toshiko Sato - Naoko Mori

Naoki was in Torchwood for two series

Tech expert Toshiko was a long-time member of Torchwood and had a crush on Owen and also dated a WWI soldier.

She was part of the show for two series and was killed off by Jack's unstable brother.

Japanese-born Naoko is currently seen in Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist and was recently in series two of horror The Terror, based on Dan Simmons novel.

In 2010 she played Yoko Ono to Christopher Eccleston's John Lennon in Lennon Naked.

Naoko has also been in Patrick Melrose, Humans, You, Me and the Apocalypse and movies Everest, Life and Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again.
