2,191 books and booklets published in Latvia in 2016

A total of 2,191 books and booklets have been published in Latvia last year, according to data from Latvian Publishing Statistics 2016, drawn up by the National Library of Latvia writes LETA.

Augusts Zilberts, a spokesman for the National Library of Latvia, told LETA that the statistical report contained information on 497 publishers, of which 312, or 63%, only published one book each.


Apgads Zvaigzne ABC was Latvia’s leading publisher with a 20% market share in 2016. Jumava publishing house was second with a 6% market share and Lauku Avize press publisher came third with 3%.


Egmont Latvija, Jana Rozes Apgads and Apgads Kontinents each commanded 2 % of the Latvian publishing market.


The largest publishers by the number of copies printed were Apgads Zvaigzne ABC, Lauku Avize, Lielvards, Jumava and Egmont Latvija.


The highest number of copies of a publication printed last year was 40,000 and the smallest print run was just 10 copies, said Zilberts.
