If you're looking for a good bargain on books a big sale starts today at the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds.

In the past two days, many volunteers have been working hard to get thousands of books organized and ready for sale.

The friends of the library prepare for the sale year round, meeting once or twice a week, pricing the books and boxing them up for the sale.

"In addition to the nonfiction, best seller, sci-fi, fantasy, children's books we have 80 bankers boxes of genealogy material that was donated to us and then we have military DVDs, we have tv series on DVDs lots of movies, vinal records, audiobooks, puzzles, and games as well," Kathleen O'Dell, Community Relations Director, with the Springfield-Greene County Library District, said.

Aside from the property tax which funds the Springfield-Greene County Library District, it relies on proceeds from this sale to help with its projects and programs.

In recent years, the friend's book sale has made more than $100,000, usually more than $120,000 each sale.

Since the sale started back in 1985 the friends have earned more than 3 million dollars from its book sale.

"All the adult, young adult, children's books most of the audiovisuals is priced at a dollar or less," O'Dell said. "And then better books are priced at $2 and up. They're individually priced so we know of teachers and people from all over the community and actually four states that come and pay $15 for maybe 100 books that would retail for hundreds of dollars."

The sale starts at 10 a.m. and goes until 8 p.m. at the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds.

Make sure to bring cash or check.

The sale lasts until Sunday, Oct. 22, 2017
